natalieWhen I woke up this morning, I could tell Suzy had been hard at work while I was sleeping.  There in my email were a big bunch of registrations for online spinning sessions.  It is always exciting to see people sign up for Fibery Goodness events, but this was especially exciting because the sign ups were for the special sessions that Natalie Redding of Namaste Farms is doing in October and November!

Natalie is very well known of course for a long list of wonderful fibery pursuits, but a lot of people have not experienced Natalie’s yarn.  Her days spinning yarns for Yarn Market were a few years back.  So her yarns don’t come up for sale very often.  But, I’m here to tell you, it was gorgeous and they smelled amazing (I’m pretty sure she was using a custom-created Aveda blend to scent the yarns back then).

I have a funny story from back in those days that I haven’t shared previously.  At one point, Natalie had a pattern for a scarf on Yarn Market using a couple different colors of her long lock tailspun yarns.  I decided I was going to make it and ordered the colors I thought I wanted.  For some reason, the folks at Yarn Market called me to clarify what I wanted.  And, as we are talking, the lady from Yarn Market decides the best thing to do is call Natalie and talk to her about the colors I want.  So, while I’m on the phone, I can hear them calling Natalie on the speaker phone and they ask her about which color is which (Is ‘Mermaid the light green or the teal?’)…and in true Natalie fashion, Natalie says, “I know what Arlene wants, don’t worry about it.  I’m doing it now.”  So, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was getting, but when it came, it was precisely what I wanted…and there was that luscious scent too.

Kitchen SinkOne of my favorites yarns from the Yarn Market days was something she called, “Kitchen Sink”.  I bought enough to make a bias-knit scarf and trimmed it with some of the amazing lock spun yarn she was also selling then.  Recently, she made a skein and put it up for sale…um, yeah, I bought it.

See back a couple of years ago, I bought quite a bit of the yarns she sold through Yarn Market, but I knitted it all up into several items using the great patterns she’d made available through Yarn Market as well.  And, then, there weren’t anymore yarns to be had.  And, I didn’t have any in my stash.  So, when this skein came up for sale, I bought it and now it’s stashed.  And, while all this was going on, little did I know that there was going to be an opportunity to learn directly from Natalie how she spins mixed fibers…

NatalieRedding2And, now, here we are.  Natalie has signed on to do some special spin sessions with us, here at Fibery Goodness!!!  She’s going to show us how she spins mixed fibers such as one would get when spinning an art batt or when purchasing one of her beautiful scrap boxes.  Suzy made the ticket page live a few hours ago and the first session is already almost sold out.  Don’t miss this wonderful treat!

It’s fantastic to see these sessions growing as it watching a dream come true unfold before our eyes.  It’s a great way for us to connect in  a more meaningful way!  We are very grateful to Natalie for participating!!!

P.S….there are still a couple of spots left for the Fiber Lab with me on Tuesday night…come join me and try it out!

All my fibery best, Arlene

I was so excited to see Nat was offering classes, I read the first description, and then signed up for both sessions thinking they were different! I know I’ll take away something new from each one, and spinning with Natalie will be great fun!
