It’s back, we have rebuilt it, and it’s better than before!!
Suzy and Arlene have been dreaming, planning, scribbling and experimenting with much fiber and many tools, and now here we are!! The Second Edition of the Big Book of Fibery Rainbows, has been transformed into ‘The Big Book of Fibery Color’! Yes we couldn’t stop at rainbows, so in this edition we have expanded some of the ideas even beyond rainbows.
What is different from the First Edition? (2016) In Edition 2 we have completely rebuilt the book from the ground up. The format is new, and made to match the tinyStudio Magazine size format, super handy for your project bag or bookcase. We have also improved the print quality and are using a lovely satin paper that really makes the images look stunning and the text sharp. There are more pages (160), along with new additions to the information, especially in the ‘hackle’ section. And there are new images added in many places, including the wee ideas gallery at the end.
It is also now available in both soft and hard covers (we loooove the hard cover!)
This book is an imagination prompt that doesn’t bog you down in colour theory or rules – instead we use the beautiful, wide palette of the rainbow as our basis for step by step instructions to create and manage colours the way you want them to be in your fiber prep, and then give you ideas on how to go beyond the rainbow, adapting colours in ways that will give you all the joy of spinning multicoloured fiber preparations (we show you how to make these) and give you the skills to combine and spin your colours to make beautiful yarns you will love, while avoiding muddiness or the risk of clownifying them.
We begin with an examination of how so many colours can work successfully together in one palette. This is our foundation and how we use the combination of a range of (any) multiple colours to make beautifully pleasing eye candy yarn. We know you love colour as we do, but we also know that you are looking for practical content. The Big Book of Fibery Color is rich with instructions that take you through the use of different fiber tools, colour blending to create your own palette, and then how to combine those into stunning spinnable fiber preparations.
You can spin these preparations any way you choose, but, If you are a fiber artist who loves to make art yarns, or if you have always wanted to try them but need some help to get going, we have added especially developed, step by step art yarn spinning recipes to make the best use of the amazing multi-coloured fiber preparations we have created, from rolags to blended batts, combed top and hackled fiber. These recipes show you how to use and manage those wonderful colours you have created and organised!
We are honoured to be able to begin the book with a wonderful Foreword written by Lexi Boeger (Pluckyfluff). Here is one of our favorite quotes: “…the subject matter stays focused on frame of mind and experimentation which will ultimately create artists instead of followers. There is plenty of brick and mortar information to be had, however. Loaded with easy to read how-to’s and step by step descriptions of the many different methods to creating unique color ways, (this book) will teach you plenty while making you feel like you discovered it all on your own! It truly is the treasure at the end of the rainbow.”
We hope you enjoy the colour play, experimentation, ideas, and techniques we have brought together in this BIG book 🙂
