One of the main areas of focus for Arlene and I during all our course development, is the idea of community and mutual support among fiber artists. In the context of our ‘Heroes Journey’, community is what we think of as our ‘crew’, the people who are willing to cast off with us and sail together into the unknown, ready to face whatever should befall us, back to back, shoulder to shoulder. I don’t believe that creativity thrives in isolation, and this is a theme that Arlene and I have included throughout the course. We will have a couple of places for us to meet, support, chat, laugh, share ideas, answer questions, and create our FiberyGoodness community. Our Facebook group is already open, and anyone can join us! As well as that we have set up a Golden Fleece Forum specially for Golden Fleece Course participants, this will be a ‘safe’ place for us to share, to talk about our module work, reflections, self reflections, and expressing our thoughts in fiber.
To help us along the way, Arlene and I have recruited some special crew members, a group of fiber artists who will be offering participants some fabulous discounts on their fiber supplies! I know that for some participants, the procurement of fibers direct from the sheeps back, scouring, washing, and and preparation process will be important and something they may wish to focus on, at least for some of the modules. But there will for sure be times when the purchase of prepared fibers, washed, dyed, carded etc, is an appealing option! This is a great way of challenging yourself and getting out of a creative rut, taking someone elses preparation, colour choices, and fiber choices to create with. I am also pretty sure we will be seeing some especially prepared fiber packs designed to work with the module themes! This is exciting, I am really looking forward to seeing how these wonderful creative people interpret the contents of the modules Arlene and I have written. I know I will be partaking of some of that particular fibery goodness myself too and making some more yarns for each module!
These are the amazing fiberistas who have partnered with us and will accompany us on this journey – they will also be working through the modules alongside us too!
Batts in the Bellfry (Kim Perkins) , Hobbedehoy Yarn and Fibers (Elizabeth Stottlemeyer), JazzTurtle Creations (Esther Rogers) , and Three Ravens Studio (Christiane Knight)
Please take a moment to visit their pages and see exactly the kind of eye candy they create and anticipate a wonderful journey in texture and colour!
And the crew awesomeness doesn’t end there! We need our tools, toys, and on-trip equipment! Without those things we are left stranded high and dry on a desert island somewhere in the middle of the pacific without two sticks to rub together! The amazing people of Majacraft have come on board too, ready to create our wonderful circular loom, which we have plans for during the final course module, and as support in creativity and enabling with their range of tools and spinning equipment. Its no secret that I love what they make, and my One Wheel (the Aura) is ready for the journey as my trusted companion along the way.
Today, Arlene has been busy behind the scenes with some final touches on the website, and I have been busy with the last additions to our modules. We are almost ready for launch day! I really can’t wait!
My impatience however is somewhat tempered by the following fiberlust photos contributed by our amazing crew 🙂 What a sight!
See you soon!

I’m very much in the ‘community mode’ that you mention. I love the idea of rubbing shoulders with lots of fabulous fiberistas! Creativity is often a piggybacking experience for me and I welcome that in this course. Looking forward to it!
I can’t wait to see what you have planned. This is fascinating and exciting!
Can’t wait to sign up!
Just signed up for the Gold package! Why do i feel this journey is going to be like fiber therapy? I look forward to it!
I am in love with fiber, so what better birthday gift to get is this! Just had my electric drum carder ready to process my fleeces piling high in my work room, so this will be my treat!
