Here we are with the last issue for 2024 already! This has been a wonderful year for exploring and celebrating art yarns and art yarn artists, with all the wonderful variety of textures and colours you can imagine. I would like to continue with this theme of creative experimentations next year as well, with a particular focus on stories and story telling through our yarn and fibre crafts.
In this issue you will enjoy some really stunning fiber work and inspirations from some especially creative and talented artists.
Our cover artist, Imogen Bright Moon, has shared a wonderful article with us on finding your inspiration, and then translating that into fiber. Imogen delves into the natural world to unlock her fibre art, from which those gorgeous tones are reflected in the natural fibres she uses.
I have also written a review of Imogen’s recently released book: ‘Wild Yarns’, and her article in the issue is a lovely peek into her world of creativity.
Another world of texture can be found in the work of Annie-France Bowker, whose glorious use of fabrics and textiles in her weaving shows her innovative spirit and can’t fail to inspire!
Another fun and creative artist featured in this issue is Audrey Costruba, who takes us on a colourful journey through her process of art yarn creation and weaving, you are sure to love her work!
We have some cool sheep history from Jodi Shadforth, sharing her own journey as Wensleydale farmer, and role in the Wensleydale LongWool Sheep Breeders Association, as well as information about this lovely breed and a recent exhibition organised to show what can be done with these amazing fleeces!
And continuing on the history route, Matthew Wright is back with the second part of our story on the WW2 ‘Land Girls’ in New Zealand, their lives and experiences as well as their importance to both New Zealand and the War effort overseas. Did you know that Eleanor Roosevelt herself visited New Zealand at this time and met with some of the ‘girls’?
And then we are back to full colour and the fantastically imaginative work from Ineke de Brouwer from the Netherlands, who this time, shares inspirations from her vacation to Bonaire and the yarns and weaving she created.
