Hello Fiber Friends!!! I am thrilled beyond words to be writing this post! Over the next several months, the blog is going to feature the wisdom and artistry of Christiane Knight of Three Ravens Fiber Studio. Fiber Biz Success Tips: Getting Time on Your Side (plus Giveaway Winner)
I don’t know one person who doesn’t struggle with the issue of finding time for everything they have to do, need to do, want to do. I grew up in a mostly orderly environment — lots of routine. Monday was wash day. Tuesday was a day for housecleaning. Wednesday was grocery shopping. Dinner was at 5:20 PM every night. My life is not like this now! For many of us, maybe even most of us, life is chaotic, often hectic
Checking In and a Giveaway!
Time flies…I look up and it’s been a month already since we rolled out Sock School. It has been a complete thrill to see people making their first socks! I love to see the yarn combinations people put together and help them work through the techniques.
Once Upon a Time, there was a Sock Knitter…
Many moons ago, I became a Sock Knitter. While I dye, spin, weave, knit and crochet, deep down inside lives an eternal Sock Knitter. By a rough estimate, I’ve knit 500,000 stitches in the pursuit of making footwear. Maybe it’s because I’ve always loved shoes that I naturally gravitated towards making socks. It still amazes me that with two needles and some yarn, the curves and angles of the foot can be accommodated so beautifully.
Fleece to Sweater with Bren Boone: Staying Motivated
Editor’s Notes: This is a fantastic topic! One of the standout qualities that Bren possesses is fortitude which I truly admire. We are super excited to share Bren’s take on how to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Take it away, Bren! Spinning for a large project can seem a little daunting at first, especially if you are processing the fleece from the very beginning. It can become boring and maybe a little tedious. Then there’s still
Fleece to Sweater with Bren Boone: Sampling and Combing
Publisher’s Notes: We have Bren Boone, our Artist in Residence, back for you this week to talk about her approach to sampling and combing. We are sure you are going to love Bren’s down to earth and practical steps. Take it away, Bren! Sampling: Make A Plan I know what you’re thinking. Make a plan? I hear it all the time. “I just let the fiber tell me what it wants to be”, and that’s ok. But not always! Sometimes
Making 2017 a Great Year for Your Fiber Biz!
I was asked recently for some of my ideas on becoming successful with a fiber business. I shared my thoughts with that person but thought others might want to hear them as well. And, it’s a great time to talk about it because this is a great time of year for changing things up and perhaps doing things differently. But, first, let’s set the stage for this conversation. There are different types of success in business. Being well known, being
2017 Color of the Year: Greenery — I’m On It!
I have been waiting for the last several weeks to see what Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year would be. Some of you may have caught the announcement last week that the color is Greenery. I could not be happier about this choice!!!! It’s fresh, light, happy, and hopeful. This color is a breath of fresh air to me and coincidentally, a color which I’m naturally aligned. Usually, when I write these posts, I scour the internet for examples
