(Photo courtesy of Majacraft) This week we are bringing a new course announcement (you’ll have to read to the end!!) and we are bringing you the first of our tool features, because, in fiberista language, ‘tool’ = ‘toy’…right? So to start us off I am impelled to go straight to the Hackle, because it is my favourite. Nope, not because it’s cute or cuddly (it’s not), nor because it’s elegant or graceful, but purely because of what I can do
In Praise of Singles
I know, its Valentines day, and I am talking about singles! Well Cupid isn’t always welcome, especially when we have ‘the perfect single’ thats really not trying to hook up with the perfectly matched partner to ‘balance’ it.. This is not the single thats smooth, low twist and relaxed.. in my eyes thats not always ‘perfect’, in fact, sometimes its just too damn smooth for its own good, I mean, if I wanted ‘that’ kind of perfect single, wouldn’t I
Coming up: New Resources and the FiberyGoodness shop
Its Friday, and I hope you are all looking forward to a weekend of much fibery goodness! For myself (Suzy), I would be pretty happy with a day off and some extra time to spend with my fiber and dye stashes. In the meantime though, there are preparations to make, websites to be updated, information to be sent out and fiber kits to be assembled, because… dahdahdahhhh.. we are nearly ready to reopen enrollments for the next Journey to the
Weaving in Circles
We are thrilled to see that many course participants now have their Golden Fleece Circular Looms in their hands and are already beginning with the fun that is weaving in circles! If you haven’t yet received yours and are expecting it, don’t worry, its not long to wait now. One of the reasons we love these looms so much, and also Majacraft who produces them, is that each and every one of these has had so much personal care and attention, first
Fiber Preparation is EVERYTHING
As a beginner spinner, I remember fiber being, well, just fiber. And, there were all of these strange terms such as “batt”, “rolag”, and “combed top”. It was confusing…remember, I wasn’t a natural with my wheel and to make matters worse, I wanted to cling to the idea that any fiber would do! But, slowly my understanding regarding fibery-related matters started to become clearer. I learned about staple length. I watched old dvd’s from master spinners like Rita Buchanan. The
Module One Yarns
We really did it! You, Arlene, me, here we all are, several weeks into our journey already! I know that there are people at all stages of progress at the moment (and this is just as it should be), with some just beginning to consider their yarn and the design elements they want to include, and others who have already processed, planned, and created their yarns. It is a wonderful experience for us to see the yarn images being posted
Getting Ready!
Here we are with a new blog post, an update, a headsup, and a warm up 🙂 What direction are we heading?! First the update, because this is super cool! We have some progress pics of our Majacraft looms currently being made! We will let you know as soon as they are ready to ship, there are quite a lot to be cut out and engraved with our special course logo, but it will be worth the wait, and, for
Counting Down!
Just one more day to launch time! It seems so long to wait! But time is all relative isnt it, when I look back at the time we have spent developing the course and the website, it seems to have been both forever, and no more than a few moments in time 🙂 Today I would like to share with you some of the artwork I have created to go with the course materials. There is a quite specific reason
Meet the Crew!
One of the main areas of focus for Arlene and I during all our course development, is the idea of community and mutual support among fiber artists. In the context of our ‘Heroes Journey’, community is what we think of as our ‘crew’, the people who are willing to cast off with us and sail together into the unknown, ready to face whatever should befall us, back to back, shoulder to shoulder. I don’t believe that creativity thrives in isolation,
